Rizatriptan benzoate, a selective 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor agonist, indicated for the acute treatment of migraine. The main motive of the present study was to develop rapid disintegrating tablets (RDT) of rizatriptan benzoate and study the effect of super disintegrants (sodium starch glycolate, croscarmellose sodium, crospovidone) on disintegration time and enhancement of dissolution. Direct compression technique was employed for the preparation of tablets as all the ingredients of the study are free flowing. The effect of Mannitol and spray dried lactose (SDL) was studied with respect to the different superdisintegrants, different ratios of SDL: mannitol used in the study are 1:1, 2:3, 3:2, 1:4 and 4:1. All the batches were evaluated for weight variation, friability, hardness, thickness, disintegration time, water absorption ratio, wetting time and in-vitro dissolution studies.
